Google Pixel Problems We See Most and How They Are Fixed

From cracked screens and tired batteries to camera glass and charging trouble, here are the Google Pixel problems we see most and how we fix them.

Google Pixel phones have built a loyal following for their clean software and excellent cameras. Like any phone, though, they run into problems with age and everyday wear. Here are the Pixel issues we see most often at our Canton shop, what causes them, and how they are fixed, along with a few things you can try on your own first.

1. Cracked or failing screens

Screen damage is the most common repair for any phone, and Pixels are no exception.

What it looks like: cracked glass, black spots, lines across the display, flickering, or touch that stops working in certain areas.

How it is fixed: Pixel screens are bonded displays, so a repair usually means replacing the full screen assembly. The old screen is carefully separated from the frame, the new one is fitted and sealed, and touch, display and the fingerprint sensor are tested.

Good to know: Many Pixels use an under-display fingerprint sensor. After a screen replacement, you may need to set up your fingerprints again, and some models require a calibration step. We take care of that and test it before you leave.

2. Batteries that drain fast or swell

After a couple of years, Pixel batteries can lose capacity like any other phone.

What it looks like: faster drain, shutdowns at partial charge, overheating, or in more serious cases a screen that is lifting away from the frame.

How it is fixed: a battery replacement. On many Pixels this means removing the screen to reach the battery, so it is careful work.

Safety note: if your screen is being pushed up or the phone looks bulged, stop charging it and stop using it. That is likely a swollen battery, and it should be handled promptly.

3. Charging problems

What it looks like: the phone only charges at certain angles, charges slowly, or does not charge at all.

Try this first: shine a light into the USB-C port and gently remove any lint with a wooden toothpick. Try a different cable and adapter, and restart the phone. A lot of charging trouble is just packed pocket lint.

How it is fixed: if cleaning does not help, we test the port, cable connection and battery to find the actual fault, then replace the charging port or related part.

4. Camera issues

The camera is a big reason people buy a Pixel, so camera problems are especially frustrating.

What it looks like: cracked camera bar glass, blurry or hazy photos, a camera that will not focus, or an app that shows a black screen.

How it is fixed: if only the protective camera glass is cracked, replacing that glass may be enough. If the camera module itself is damaged, it can be replaced. Before any of that, we check whether it is a software problem, since a stuck camera app can look a lot like a hardware failure.

Try this first: wipe the lens with a clean microfiber cloth, remove the case to make sure it is not blocking anything, restart the phone, and check for updates.

5. Back glass damage

Many Pixel models have glass backs that crack in drops. Cracked back glass is more than cosmetic. It can let in moisture and dust, and sharp edges can cut. Replacing the back glass restores the look and protection of the phone.

6. Speaker and microphone trouble

What it looks like: callers cannot hear you, sound is muffled, or the speaker crackles.

Try this first: gently brush out the speaker and mic openings with a soft, dry brush, remove the case, and test a call on speaker. Also check whether a Bluetooth device is still connected and grabbing the audio.

How it is fixed: if cleaning and settings do not solve it, we test and replace the speaker or microphone.

7. Software slowdowns and glitches

Not every problem needs a part. A phone that is laggy, freezing or rebooting can sometimes be fixed by:

  1. Installing pending system and app updates
  2. Clearing out storage if the phone is nearly full
  3. Restarting in safe mode to see whether a downloaded app is the cause
  4. As a last resort, a factory reset, after a full backup

If the phone keeps rebooting even after these steps, a hardware fault such as a failing battery or board issue may be involved, and a diagnosis is the next step.

Before you bring it in

Back up your Pixel using Settings, then System, then Backup, and make sure Google Photos has finished syncing. Know your PIN so we can test the phone fully after the repair.
